Every Child Matters and Coaching Skills for Parents
Coaching Skills for Parents workshops are being run by schools that
recognise the importance of the role played by parents and carers in
supporting and encouraging a child’s learning. The workshops help with
transition points, for example, children starting school or moving from
Year 6 to Year 7; they encourage parents to use the power and influence
they have to the greatest effect to enhance their child’s learning
experience; whilst teachers benefit from having the support and
understanding of their pupils’ parents or carers.
The Next Generation
Coaching programme, Coaching Skills for Parents, has been successfully
delivered to parents in a number of schools as part of their commitment
to the government's Every Child Matters initiative". A shared programme of change designed to improve
outcomes for all children and young
people.
Teaching establishments know that
engaging parents in their children’s learning is invaluable. A
supportive family life, accompanied by great teaching, allows a child to
learn and reach their own, often untapped potential.
The Coaching Skills for
Parents courses were enormously successful with some describing
the course as:
“Absolutely brilliant. Helped to make me look at things in different
ways, reminded me of things I had forgotten and gave me lots of great
new skills, ideas and viewpoints.”
"Inspiring, I now acknowledge my children’s
differences by encouraging them to be the best “they can be” rather than
what “I want for them”. I now understand them better and learn
from them instead of just telling them."
"I now manage my expectations better,
listen and empathise more, guide rather than dictate
enabling me to get the best out of the children rather than impose my
expectations."
"Enlightening! Showing me the difference between unacceptable/bad
behaviour and inconvenient behaviour, I now give my family more time,
which is FREE".
" I now have less specific expectations about my child’s achievements,
thank you so much". |
